To scale is to grow. And to grow, you need to make sure your business has the right processes in place to handle additional customers and volume. But how? There are so many tools and resources out there that promise to deliver scalability. Perhaps you bought some of these in the past, or are still searching for that perfect fit. What you may be left with is a bunch of extra processes that are either half implemented, or collecting dust on the operational shelf.
The trick to success in scalability is to think BIG from your current viewpoint. What if your business was 5x bigger than what it is today? What solutions would you need to manage that type of volume? Once you have this in mind, you can opt toward processes and systems that align with your future-vision and that also suit your needs today.
Scalability always starts internally. By taking a look at what you currently have in place to manage your business you can identify areas where there is a drag on cost, time, or efficiency.
- What processes do you currently have in place?
- What is working? What isnât?
- Are some of your processes slowing you down (cost, time, efficiency of resources)?
- What can be automated?
- What can be eliminated?
Automation is a large part of successful scalability. Whatever can be taken over by a streamlined âI-donât-have-to-think-about-itâ process is a win, leaving you room to focus on the work itself. And, donât be afraid to involve your team in answering some of these questions. Employees in charge of implementing various processes are often intimately familiar with where the pain points are. Even more likely, theyâll have good ideas for making things easier on themselves, and your organization.
